"Don't rush me. The rain is too heavy I can barely see the road. Huh? How am I supposed to know? Don't ask the impossible from me, Sing. Oh! Hang on."
Godt saw a familiar face standing on an isolated bus stop at the other side of his lane.
That couldn't be- oh shit!
Like a man possessed, Godt rushed and took a u-turn. There was no fucking way he'd miss the opportunity to meet the person who had been Singto's wallpaper for years.
Smoothly settling his car in front of the smaller male, he went back to his friend on the phone. "I'm going to give an advance birthday gift. Stay on the line and keep quiet. My new friend might find me disrespectful if I get distracted by your noise."
When Singto gave a disgruntled 'hmm', he couldn't help but smirk. We'll see if his robot of a friend can still keep his robotic ways.
Godt rolled down his window. "Hey!" He called Singto's 'turtle'. "The rain is not going to stop soon and from what I heard busses were stopped from operating due to the rain."
The fair-skinned male blinked his eyes. Looking closer, Godt could see that Singto's pet was quite a looker. Pretty brown eyes fringed by dark long lashes on an innocent face completed by a pair of pink pouty lips. Under the slightly damp clothes, he could see that the angelic male was also quite fit.
"Maybe that's the reason why I'm the only one waiting for the bus. Thank you for telling me."
The smaller male sounded grateful and yet, he didn't smile. There was no tinge of warmth in those brown eyes of his. It was a total opposite of his photo he and Forth saw on Singto's desk.
"Are you going this way?" He pointed straight ahead. "I can drop you off."
Godt saw Singto's pet hesitate but after a few coaxing words, the pretty guy gave in.
"Where to?" He asked while glancing at his phone to make sure the call is still connected.
"21st street. It's just straight ahead and the sign board is pretty big."
Godt barely heard the address because the person on the other line was screaming bloody murder in his ear.
"What are you doing with Krist?! That's Krist, isn't it?! I'm warning you, you piece of shit, don't touch a single hair on him!"
"Just tell me to stop if we're already there." He finally said. What else can he say when he didn't hear a word 'Krist' said.
"I'm Krist."
There. Now, he can finally use his name.
"I'm Godt. Nice to meet you. In normal occasion, I'd shake your hand but since I'm driving that won't be possible." And I don't want to die young.
"That's okay. Thank you for the ride. I didn't expect the rain and I was not able to bring an umbrella with me."
For some reason, Singto became silent on the other line. This scared the shit out of him. What if he's really mad now?
"I was supposed to go on a meeting but it was cancelled because of the heavy downpour. You should ask your wife to prepare a hot cup of coffee." He hinted.
Krist rubbed the ring on his finger. "I'll prepare it myself."
Score!
"No wife, huh. Surely a beautiful girl is waiting for you."
"No. I live alone."
Take that Singto! Your damn turtle is still single.
"Hmmmnn. I'm sorry for asking but you are wearing a ring. I thought you were committed."
The smaller male regarded him with an appraising look. "The ring is for pests. You don't seem like one so I guess it's okay to let you know."
"Pests?"
Krist sighed. "I'm sure you know what I mean since you also fend them off from time to time. That necklace on your neck also has a ring as a pendant."
Godt chuckled. A cutie and a smartass.
"You sure it's okay to drive me all the way here? I can't even offer you a cup of coffee when you drop me off since I'm living in a dormitory."
"Dorm? Only students live in dormitories nowadays."
"Ah. . . A friend owns the place and the view is quite good. The rent is also affordable."
"But no privacy."
"I rented the entire four bed space and made it into my room. Still, it's a dormitory."
"Oh." For some reason, Godt could feel that Krist was hiding something.
"If no girlfriend or wife, how about a boyfriend?" He continued.
"I told you. The ring are for pests. I don't have time."
He didn't deny being attracted towards men.
"What made you think I'm into men?" Or maybe he's not.
"Your pretty face?"
Krist's snorted. "Bisexuals like you should answer 'my gaydar' says so."
Singto's pet is cold. Colder than a room with a temperature of -100 degree Celsius!
"Don't act like a prude all the time or you might die a virgin." He joked.
The smaller male only glanced at him before looking out the window. "I'm not a virgin. I already had enough sex three years ago to last me a lifetime."
Shit! Was that anger?
Swallowing his hesitation, he directly dived in. "Bad break up?"
"Don't ask about it."
Seems like Singto had a lot of making up to do.
Sweeping his fringes off his eyes, Krist looked towards Rome and Bright who were giggling as they raised their glasses.
Who would have ever thought that the two would get married with their cat and mouse relationship?
If there had been anything good the break up with Singto had brought to him, that would be this. Bright and Rome. The two met because of him and his broken-heartedness. Both male became his anchor when he was at the deepest pit of his life.
Now, the two finally got married. At 28, Krist also wants to settle down. He wants to have a family of his own but he needs more preparation.
He still had a couple of loans to settle and although his salary was enough for him and his sister, he wanted to pay off everything. Same with what he did to the money he borrowed from the bank account Singto left him.
It wasn't his money. But desperate times require desperate measures. He had no other option but to get back to that residence, borrowed a portion of the huge amount in that account and paid his mother's hospital bills. All his hopes faded away though.
Money could not save his mom's life nor could it extend it.
Still, he was able to give her the most comfortable room before she passed away due to traumatic brain injury. It was worth it.
Now, he was paying off the loans he made to return the full amount he borrowed. The feeling of satisfaction when he deposited the money was so worth drowning himself in debts.
He doesn't regret it.
This would have been a day filled with happiness and blissful smiles if not for one thing-or person. Right across from his table was the table of invited business associates. One of which was the person he never expected to see ever again.
Making sure that his eyes would never fall on 'that' table, Krist sat between Tutah and Knot. Their bigger physique would hide what he didn't want to see.
Knot, the only person aside from Rome who knew Singto, patted his hand comfortingly from time to time. He'd nod in response. No words were shared.
No words could sum up the stabbing pain of seeing the person he has ever loved again. Not when the breakup was so bad.
His cheeks hurt from faking his fake smiles. His eyes sting from holding back his tears. His throat hurts from continuously swallowing the screams he wanted to shout out. Again, everything hurts.
No one understands that.
Not even Knot.
"We'll start with the bouquet toss. Everyone must join, okay?" The host's voice passed by Krist's ears.
Thoughts a thousand miles away, he was almost hit on the face by something thrown towards his way. Good thing his reflexes were good and he caught the white object before it hits him.
A loud applause followed and the host was saying something about those who were interested in him to step-up their game. "The special thing about this toss is that, the one who catches the garter will make Krist wear the garter using his mouth. Yup. You heard that right. So, Krist right here will have to take off his suit and wear a dre-"
"What?!" He couldn't believe his ears.
"Come on, Krist. You know how crazy Bright and Rome are." Tutah laughed.
". . . will continue after the make over. So, Krist, please go with the 'bride'. You'll have the makeover at his waiting room."
Rome bounced towards Krist who glared at his friend. "You better be grateful you're my friend."
The smaller male smiled at him before pushing him out the door.
Should I tell him about Singto? No, it's his day. There's no need to make a fuss anyway.
During the entire minutes of pure torture, Rome laughed at Krist who kept on glaring at the makeup artist as well as the hairstylist. In an emerald dress, white pumps and a long black-haired wig, he and Rome went back to the reception area.
They were standing behind the sound system so no one noticed their arrival. In front, an aged gentleman was toasting Bright. "I'm very happy for you."
"That's his godfather. He flew all the way from overseas to attend the wedding. He actually brought his son." Rome whispered.
"Since most of you here are also my friends. I would like to announce my son's impending marriage to his fiancé. I'd like to offer this toast to my son, Bas, and my son-in-law, Singto."
As the two stood from their seats, Krist heard his heart break into pieces.
Shattered.
Everything turned dark and even though he could hear Rome worriedly asking how he is, he could not understand.
His system went and turned itself off.
"Don't worry. Let's proceed with the garter thing." It's better this way. No pain.
Nothing.
"Bu-"
"It's your wedding. Bright doesn't know and it's better that way. Let's go."
He could see that Rome didn't want to go and continue his wedding as planned but Krist dragged him out. The host immediately saw them and a couple of teasing remarks were thrown his way.
He didn't know how he responded. Did he even respond?
Next thing he knew, he was sitting on a stool with his right leg propped up on a cushion with the guests jeering at him. Loud cheers filled the entire venue as an unknown man who introduced himself as one of Bright's high school friends knelt in front of him.
If his neurons were working properly, the guy would have been out-cold on the floor before he could lay a hand on Krist's skin. But he wasn't sound of mind. He didn't even realize an unfamiliar pair of lips were dragging a flimsy piece of cloth all the way to his thigh as guests shouted 'higher'.
"Alright! Now that the garter is in position, we need to have it taken off again so we can play the next game! Nate if you want Krist's number, you can ask it later. Krist, you don't need to return the dress. Okay? If you want, you can wear it while you go out with Nate." The host teased.
The guests buzzed with the newfound pairing. Still, Krist remained silent. They can do whatever they want.
He doesn't care.
And so, the garter was removed from his thigh. Not a word of protest left his lips when Nate accidentally nipped his leg. Not a single sound came out when he was kissed on his cheek.
Nothing.
After being molested, Krist left. He heard Nate call him but he didn't turn around. Some of the guests whispered about his rudeness but he didn't give a fuck.
He had to leave.
He had to-
"Are you okay?" Knot appeared out of nowhere and grabbed his shoulder.
"Take me home." He murmured. "Please."
